Our water has a five stage purification system. First the water passes through 2 sediment filters and then it flows into a carbon filter. Next it goes through reverse osmosis then into a post carbon filter. Finally the water passes through an ultra violet (UV) light before dispensing into your bottle.
How reverse osmosis works
The reverse osmosis process is a water separation technology where dissolved contaminants in water are physically removed by passing it under pressure through a semipermeable, thin film membrane. The process is similar to the way your body’s cells absorb water. Reverse osmosis will remove up to 98% of dissolved contaminants such as; mineral, salts, metals and organic matter that may be present in a water supply. Pores in the reverse osmosis membrane are so small that only water molecules pass through. The contaminants are rejected and discarded as wastewater.
Interior Health recommends sanitizing your bottle before every fill.
The bottle rinsing machine inside Gilbert Parts Depot uses a process called ozone to rinse your bottle with an ultra clean water. It WILL NOT kill any bacteria that may be inside your bottle.
To clean, we recommend putting a teaspoon (5ml) of bleach and 2 litres of water inside your bottle and shake well. Then use our ozone rinser to clean out the bleach and water mixture.
