History of Gilbert Parts Depot

In 1982, the Gilbert family opened their first store in Vernon using the

Mitchell Auto Parts banner. Late in 1985, the banners were changed to Napa

Auto Parts. From 1985 to 1996, the Napa Auto Parts banner was used to serve

the 2 Vernon locations, Armstrong, Lumby and Enderby. In 1996, the Vernon

stores were sold.

In 2000, the 19 year relationship with Napa Auto Parts ended and the name

was changed to Gilbert Parts Depot. As the company continued to grow, a

decision was made in 2003 to re-enter the Vernon market.

In order to accommodate family succession planning, in January of 2018, the

company restructured into two new corporations. Gilbert Parts Depot still

had its operations in Armstrong, Lumby and Enderby.

The Vernon Waddington Drive location changed its name and flies under a new banner.

On January 1st, 2020, the Gilbert Parts Depot purchased Taylor-Wilton Nelson

becoming our 4th location. Taylor Wilton served Nelson and outlining area

since the 1940s. See the Nelson page for more TWN history.

On October 31st 2020 Gilbert Parts Depot moved into the former Napa

downtown Salmon Arm location. Napa decided to close their corporate

store on February 29th 2020 after serving the community for over 35 years.

In 2023 Gilbert Parts Depot re-entered the Vernon market when a large warehouse

became availble. Gilbert Parts Depot moved into the Okanagan Landing

location formerly Central Hardware on 25th Ave. This new addition acts as the head office,

warehouse for all 6 locations, and retail store. The Vernon location has a new variety of goods

including home, garden, hardware, tools, equipment, auto and industrial items helping fill

the one-stop-shop void in southwest Vernon when the hardware store closed its doors.

In May of 2024 Gilbert Parts Depot opened its 7th location in Nakusp

conveniently located halfway in between Lumby and Nelson.

This location completes the “trapline” as we say ranging from Salmon Arm to Nelson.

With this location Gilbert Parts Depot now has solid coverage to serve the communities of the

North Okanagan, Shuswap and West Kootenays.

Also in May of 2024, The other half of the Gilbert family decided to sell Gilbert Supply Co. / Bumper to Bumper

to it’s supplier Uni-Select / LKQ thus making all 5 of their locations corporate stores.
